So-tteok, So-tteok

So-tteok So-tteok is a popular Korean street food which means sausage and rice cake on a skewer. The name cannot be translated literally since it's a shortened version of Korean slangs. Just know that it means sausage and rice cake, specifically the cylindrical rice cake called 'garaetteok'. This combination on a skewer is a fun and tasty snack and make great meal on the go! The fun continues as you bite into the sticky, spicy, and sweet sauce on top.

Ingredients

  • 4 strips cylinder shaped rice cake/garae tteok 1" round
  • 6 hot dogs
  • Tbsp sesame oil
  • 5-6 Tbsp Bibigo Gochujang/Hot and Sweet Sauce
  • 5-6 Tbsp honey
  • 6" wooden skewers

garnish

  • chopped scallions
  • sesame seeds
  • crushed pine nuts

Instructions

  • Divide rice cake into 4th, leaving you with 4 pieces per roll.
  • Cut each sausage measuring same width as the rice cake.
  • Gently slide the skewer into middle of sausages and rice cakes, alternating. Then brush with sesame oil both front and back side.
  • Heat pan in low/medium heat. Pan fry So-tteok So-tteok for about 4-5min or until golden brown. Flip and cook additional 3-4 mins until rice cake is tender. Can you lid to keep in moisture.
  • Mix spicy sauce mixture then brush onto So-tteok So-tteok. (optional, can return to pan and cook in low heat for few min after brushing sauce)
  • Sprinkle with desired garnish. Can also add more honey and spicy gochujang.

**Rice cake tends to harden the next day. The best way to enjoy this dish is to consume it on the day it was made.
